Justin Turner named Dodger candidate for 2022 Roberto Clemente Award

Major League Baseball announced on Thursday Justin Turner has been named the Dodger’s 2022 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, baseball’s most prestigious honor for the major leaguers.

The Roberto Clemente Award is an annual recognition of a major league player who represents the game of baseball through outstanding character, community involvement, philanthropy, and philanthropic contributions on and off the field.

As part of the annual program, each MLB club nominates one player to be considered for the league-wide award for Clement’s accomplishments and character. It’s Turner. The DodgersCandidate for fifth term in last six years (2017-18, ’20-22).

During his time in Los Angeles, Turner has been deeply rooted in the community, giving his time, energy and financial support to various philanthropic endeavors, founding the Justin Turner Foundation (JTF) in 2016 with his wife Kourtney. The foundation’s official mission is to support homeless veterans, children (and their families) battling life-changing illnesses and diseases, and various youth baseball organizations.

Beyond his foundation, Turner has supported community events with the Dodgers and the Dodgers Foundation, local hospitals and the Dream Center, a food bank named the Justin and Courtney Turner Food Bank in his honor. A full summary of Justin’s commitment to the Los Angeles community can be found at MLB.com/Clemente21.

“I am grateful to represent the Dodgers as a Roberto Clemente Award nominee,” Turner said. “There are many honors that come with being a Major League Baseball player, but nothing makes me prouder than wearing Roberto’s No. 21 and trying to follow in his philanthropic footsteps. The Justin Turner Foundation does not work for recognition, but achieving this distinction gives us assurance that our relationship with the community is on the right track.
